A busy week on the High Peak Wilderness First Aid Expedition Leader 40hr course. Basic through to advanced skills have been learnt and practised. One of the highlights of the week was the successful completion of a Triage exercise where 72 adults and children were located and prioritised. Other features of the course was an interactive lecture and discussion on altitude illness prevention, recognition and treatment. The penultimate day concentrated on IV cannulation followed by practical scenarios outside: this was enhanced by assistance from two medical students who also performed the role of casualties for the course participants. This course is suitable for expedition leaders, in particular for those leading expeditions to remote areas in developing countries. Some of the advanced skills are practised with the intention to assist a medical professional in the event of a trauma or medical related emergency. To attend this course, details are here
