November 2011 saw High Peak First Aid back for another course with Mountainbikingspain and to provide a course for the Indigo Gym at Mojacar. Since we last provided a course they have received prestigious recognition and are now supported and registered with the Junta de Andalucia.
As well as providing a Mountain Bike Specific Wilderness First Aid Course I was there to look at their risk assessments and safety systems. The first day of the course was taken in and around one of their well equipped and comfortable guest accommodations. The rest of the course was out on the trail. I had the opportunity to see some fantastic scenery on the second part of the course and could see what they had decided to set up a mountain biking company in this area.
Rather than base the practical outdoor work in one location we decided to take advantage of the quad and provide a series of practical scenarios on the go. Sam their safety driver took me on ahead of the rest of the group – they followed on with their mountain bikes – and we had plenty of time to set up a casualty simulation scenario at each location. Each scenario progressed to a more difficult level and was designed to test any incident they could face on the trail.
After seeing the standard the staff could perform to in the event of an incident I would be more than happy to go out riding on some of the fantastic trails they have. If you are thinking of taking a holiday here or would like some expert instruction then I can thoroughly recommend them. It is worth hiring their services as a guide for the day along with their bike hire. They have spent many hours researching the best trails to run: trying to find trails by yourself is very likely to result in disappointing dead ends! In the unlikely event of having an accident you also have some highly trained staff there to evacuate you.
Mountainbikingspain has put a lot of effort into finding accommodation so suit all budgets and trails to suit all levels. High Peak First Aid has clients who travel from overseas and from all over the UK to attend courses at our venue in the Peak District. If you fancy doing a true Wilderness First Aid Course it actually works out cheaper in a lot of cases to fly to Spain, avoid the British weather, stay in great accommodation, have tasty food and become qualified in Wilderness First Aid!
I will be adding the write up for the Indigo Gym under a separate post. Photos will also be added to the Gallery shortly.
