First Response Emergency Care Level 3 (FREC 3) Qualsafe (RQF)

First Response Emergency Care (FREC 3) courses are held every month in the Peak District.  We are easily accessible from Manchester Airport for overseas particpants.  We aim to make this regulated qualification as practical as possible.  To enhance learning, some practical sessions are conducted outside in a mix of urban and wilderness environments.  Our training facility is in the midst of acres of private land so we can get on and practice uninterrupted. We have a strong Wifi signal and 4G so we can easily take out a waterproof smart phone or tablet to show short media clips.

Participants are introduced to a variety of pre-hospital care equipment such as tourniquets and haemostats to arrest catastrophic or life threatening bleeding.  Pelvic splints are part of this regulated qualification with plenty of practice in varied terrain:  easy to apply in a classroom but more challenging outside in the mud, rain or on a steep slope.  If you are wondering how a pelvic splint is used to minimise bleeding then you can view some details on YouTube.  If you would like to know more about the FREC 3 and how it may benefit you in the security industry, armed forces, outdoor education or community responder scheme to name a few, then please contact us on 01433 621484 or info@highpeakfirstaid.co.uk.  We respond to calls and emails outside office hours for those on different time zones.

Outdoor First Aid

High Peak First Aid has eight outdoor first aid courses a month provided at our training facility in the Peak District.  These outdoor first aid courses are held every weekend and every Wednesday/Thursday throughout the year apart from Bank Holiday’s.

High Peak First Aid 16hr outdoor first aid courses are recognised and have been accepted by the major governing bodies for the last twenty years.  High Peak First Aid has Tutors qualified to provide first aid training who are Paramedics or student Paramedics with extensive experience in remote or hostile environments.  Tutors are also qualified to teach and assess on the courses that contain an element of assessment. Additionally, each course participant receives a robust waterproof, wilderness first aid  manual.

The Mountain Training Association states that, “The minimum requirement is that such a course must involve at least two full days or sixteen hours of instruction and include an element of assessment. Candidates are further expected to undertake such additional elements of first aid training as are consistent with their work in wild and remote country, including emergency assistance and evacuation techniques” .  The 16 hour first aid course here, meets the requirements the Mountaineering, Climbing and Walking requirements on the Mountain Training Website.

For those taking the Climbing Wall Award (CWA), an 8hr course such as the High Peak Wilderness First Aid 8hr course can be taken. These 8hr outdoor first aid courses are also held at our facility in the Peak District every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the year apart from Bank Holiday’s.  We have free car parking on site and are easily accessible by public transport from major cities such as Manchester, Sheffield, Derby, Leeds and Stoke-on-Trent.  These transport links also serve Manchester or East Midlands Airport.  A high proportion of our clients fly in from Europe, the Middle East or Asia, especially those who need Expedition First Aid or the First Response Emergency Care Level 3 or 4 that is recommended by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

For those going to more remote locations where help is likely to be delayed the First Response Emergency Care Level 3 (FREC 3) is an excellent option to consider.

First Response Emergency Care Level 3

We now have two courses a month for the FREC 3 qualification.  The qualification is on the Regulated Qualification Framework and overseen by the Awarding Body, Qualsafe.

Employers in the Security Industry are increasingly asking for security staff to take the FREC suite of qualifications to validate their first aid skills for working in remote or austere environments.  The FREC 3 can be used by any person wishing to gain a regulated qualification in first aid that gives them a solid grounding on which to build further skills.  If your job involves working overseas you have the option of achieving a recognised qualification and combining this with post-course work connected to your environment.  High Peak First Aid can assist you with modules from our High Peak Wilderness First Aid Expedition Leader 24hr course.  For example you may be going to altitude so we give you access to our resources on altitude to develop your knowledge.  For expedition leaders going on remote trips who may be taking a medical professional, there is the option to develop your post course knowledge with modules from the High Peak Wilderness First Aid Expedition Leader 40hr course,

There is the option to pay by instalments for the FREC 3 qualification and we have a First Response Emergency Care Level 4 course in September.  FREC 3 is £594 inc VAT and FREC 4 is £630, however, for both courses booked, there is the option to pay by instalments and receive a discount.  If you are interested in the FREC 3 please see dates on the FREC 3 page.  If you would like to discuss both the FREC 3 and FREC 4, please contact nicola@highpeakfirstaid.co.uk or call 01433 621484/07931 360328.

First Response Emergency Care Level 3 (FREC 3)

Take your first aid training to the next level. Join us for First Response Emergency Care Level 3, a regulated qualification through Qualsafe. This five day qualification is challenging and includes 118 guided learning hours. Participants on the FREC 3 course in May demonstrated innovative ways to achieve the guided learning hours.  At the FREC 3 and FREC 4 level  there is no requirement to undertake clinical placements. Guided learning hours at FREC 3 and FREC 4 can be utilised to expand the participants knowledge in the pre-hospital setting. High Peak First Aid is here to support participants before, during and after the five days.  Guided learning hours can be connected to any pre-hospital care topics so there is plenty of scope to undertake meaningful work to benefit the participant in their current or future work.

With only 6 participants on each First Response Emergency care course, the Tutor has plenty of time to engage the individuals learning style.  High Peak First Aid uses a mix of video, group and individual work with an emphasis on getting into the outdoors to practice new skills.

Some participants on the May course are on track to finish their guided learning hours and join us for the FREC 4 this September. The next intakes for FREC 3 in June and July are well ahead on reading the course book. The FREC 4 will be held on September 25-29. The dates are not on the website yet as we are finalising paperwork with Qualsafe but three places are already reserved.
