Medical Supplies going to Nepal

We have had a fantastic response from our request for assistance for financial donations and medical supplies to be sent to Nepal.  The disaster in Nepal will not be over in a few days and the severe injuries people have sustained will need sterile dressings to help prevent infection. We have already contacted friends and organisations in Kathmandu who can help with the distribution to ensure supplies arrive. We are going to start fundraising for these supplies and will post further details on social media as to how you can help.  This will be an on going need for many weeks so further details will also go on our new website that is imminent.

Advanced and Expedition First Aid 2014-2015

New dates have been added to our website. We have designed our courses to be modular to enable people to attend and progress as far as needed.  The Wilderness First Aid Expedition Leader series of courses cover plenty of relevant topics for those leading expeditions overseas: in particular there are modules on Altitude, Frost Nip and Frost Bite combined with the use of Oxygen.  We also have a disaster module for those who may end up leading trips to countries such as Nepal that has a high risk of earthquake.

Progressing on to the Expedition Leader course teaches a participant good expedition Medic assist skills.  If the participants expedition medic asks the trip leader to assemble a giving set or find a 14 gauge cannula, they will be able to do so.  In difficult or demanding situation far from help these skill are an asset and can be a life saver as has been proved by previous course participants.

Lastly, if you hold a teaching qualification and are a registered Paramedic, Nurse or Doctor you may like to join our existing team to work on these courses.

Fast Response First Aid Kits Have Arrived!

Fast Response first aid kits in Green are here. They can be attached to a belt and contain: a robust bag, trauma fix dressing, shears, wound closure strips, CPR face shield with a valve, gloves, cleansing wipes, adhesive dressing, tape, plasters and OP Airways size 3, 4 and 5 (Airways come in sterile packaging – removed here for clarity). All for £16 plus VAT and postage (£2.80). Compact forestry first aid kits are in stock now and will be posted here after the weekend.

D of E First Aid Kits are here!

We now have the pupil D of E First Aid Kits.  They meet the recommended requirements and are £9.00 inc VAT.  You may also like to supplement the kits for each pupil with a burns dressing and blister plasters to be carried by the group.   Burns dressings are useful additions to an outdoor first aid kit.  Water may be available, but a burns dressing may be the only option to facial burns in the event of a Trangia cooking stove flaring up.  The person can also be transported to hospital wearing the burn dressing.  The dressings are also great for burns to hands as they can help prevent fingers sticking together in the event of a partial thickness burn.  Combined with cling film,  the burns dressings help prevent infection, reduce pain, reduce fluid loss that creates shock and a burn dressing applied to a face could be the difference between being scarred for life or not. We now have a huge range of first aid kits in stock and individual items and we are looking forward to our new website which will contain a first aid equipment shop along with guidelines on how to use the kit.
